SAP module, experience & salary based job trend

Job market is wide open and there is no dearth of seekers. Job market has turned big time to ABAP, CRM, BI, Basis & FICO. However, it becomes really difficult to analyse trend and they market is behaving. JobGraphs.com is one of the niche websites that provides trends and analytic data pertaining to the specific industry, technology or a country. Looking at SAP Jobs trend, all I can observe is FICO is leading the front followed by CRM & ABAP. Following chart speaks a lot about modules in demand.

Almost 2 years ago, it was said that ABAP is going to be replaced by Java stack and you should orient yourself with Java for better future. However, looking at the demand for ABAP professionals, we can easily conclude that ABAP is there to stay until SAP is there to stay. Demand may observe south-side trend, however, current trend is optimistic and does provides reason to cheer up if you are an ABAP expert.

BI is also one of those SAP modules that is experiencing huge gap between demand and supply for professionals. Professionals having 2.0 - 3.0 years of experience are offered average salary of $13,000. Needless to say Indian companies are one the least paying when compared to their international counterparts. See the salary trend below.

However, experience trend in inclined towards professionals having 5+ years of experience. Some of the top MNCs are even conduction women drives to prove the egalitarian culture of their organizations.

Netweaver, Vistex, PM & SRM are some of the modules experience down turn in demand. However, we cannot say that Netweaver as a whole is experiencing bad path. MDM & XI are currently in moderate demand.

Hey I’m confused between which module to choose?? ABAP, BASIS or BI?? Is there any pre-requirement to do BI(like knowledge of Netweaver or Workflow or something else)?

  6. Ameya says:

    Hi Sakti,

To be frank, ABAP is no more a niche skill. Perhaps Basis is but usually it is dominated by Guys may be because of unpredictive work schedule, late night support requirement etc. However, for BI is the best option as per current day situation. Its demand is increasing and you don’t need Netweaver or workflow background. :)

    Hope it clears your doubt.

    All the best,

    Amrya
