2 reasons for using solution manager diagnostic for portal monitoring

We have recently discussed about portal activity reports for monitoring the usage analytics. We also have seen a new approach using sweetlets for comprehensive data. 

Now in this post, let us have a look at why you should use Solution Manager Diagnostic in your portal landascape. SMD annd SMD agents are one and the same. Do not confuse SMD with SMD agent.

SMD is available under Root Cause Analysis in Solution Manager. One major advantage of it is you can also launch an Introscope session (Wily) right from the SMD. There by you can have a complete analysis.

1. End-to-End Analysis

Here you can find all technical systems for e.g. ABAP and Java systems. This supports 4 different types of analysis namely Change Analysis, Trace Analysis, Exception Analysis & Workload analysis.

• Change Analysis gives a view of all configuration changes done to the monitored systems.
• Trace Analysis provides user request related data with long executions. Here you can identify a part or a component of an application causing trouble and perform specialised analysis.
• Exception analysis is used to find system behavior and trend. You can detect what component is causing error in the trace.
• Workload analysis provides options to analyse webdynpro applications, JCO details, time profile and Garbage & thread dump analysis.

2. System Analysis

It gives good hold of system analysis by providing various system tools for monitoring historical data of a configuration change, change activities and also transport request as well. This data is clubbed under Change Reporting. In addition a Log Viewer is also provided that brings logs of all monitored systems to the one place. It also provides an option to launch Wily introscope session.
