Comparison between SAP Netweaver portal 7.0 EhP 2 & 7.3

What’s new in 7.3? What’s new in CE 7.1 or CE 7.2? What is the difference between CE 7.1 & CE 7.2? Should I go with EhP1 for 7.0 or EhP2.0 or directly upgrade to Netweaver Portal 7.3? These are the frequently asked questions whenever a newer version of SAP Portal is released. SAP released Enhancement Pack 1 & 2 for NW portal 7.0. We also have Composite Environment 7.1 & 7.2. And finally, we have a full version release of 7.3. When options are too many, it is quiet obviously asked what to choose over what? And most importantly, Why?

I have already written a few posts to answer this question. However, after having a discussion with some senior colleagues & friends, it was observed that SAP has shipped quiet a few features in EhP 2, which are also part of 7.3. So first question that anybody can think of Can I continue to use existing 7.0 infrastructure and yet have some features those are shipped in the latest version i.e. 7.3. Answer is Yes!

    Hi Ameya,

Really interesting information, thank you for keeping this blog.

I’m doing some research on Netweaver releases and their differences. Also for the CE platform and its SPs.

Do you know if there’s a document on SAP Library that would have this compilation in one chart or something similar? Sometimes you get lost across different versions, ehps and sps.

    Thanks!

    Hi Pablo,

    Thank you for appreciating!

Sadly, I am yet to come across any SAP document having a comparison of all versions & SP level features. This was the motive behind writing this post so that we can at least have some idea about features & their availability w.r.t versions.

I’d be glad if you could also share some of your findings. It will be of great help to for everyone.

    Have a good day!

We had migrated from Netweaver 7.0 to Netweaver 7.3. Our problem here is we have changes our themes in 7.3. we like to know how do we transport the same themes across system in Netweaver 7.3 environment.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Hi Saravanan,

Unfortunately I am yet to try hands-on on 7.3 and therefore I cannot answer your doubt. However, from what I know, theme transport hasn’t changed much from what it was earlier. You can still integrate your 7.0 themes with 7.3. And if you are not sure if they will work or not, then try to run theme integrity test :) it will cretainly give you a way out.

    Thanks for commenting,
