Starting today, I am starting a series of articles on SAP Netweaver Portal 7.3 upgrade – Lessons learned. This series will run for a couple of weeks and I will cover some of the major lessons learned in upgrading SAP Netweaver Portal to 7.3. Obviously, I will divide the series in two categories – Development & Administration.
In the development category, I will showcase upgrade / migration approach for development components (aka DCs) as well as local developments. I recently worked on a migration assignment in which I had to migrate local developments from 7.0 to 7.3 based DCs. I will also cover this approach in a detailed way include a workaround if your NWDS did not show a migration wizard for your old DC. In addition, I will also explain how to perform EAR deployments from NWDS.
There are tons of activities I have listed down to showcase in administration & configuration category. This will include using newly released feature of “Web Resource Repository” for displaying pictograms in portal components & themes. I will also show you how can you migrate your old 7.0 theme to new 7.3 theme. There are a couple of important activities every project should perform immediately after your servers are migrated. For e.g. Running PCD consistency check tool, UME consistency Check tool, and so on. I am going to publish detailed posts on how to run these tools in your development environments so that all PCD & UME objects are synchronized and you do not get a infamous “Portal Runtime Error”.
So stay tuned for this series. Please note that these articles will be secured and published ONLY for subscribed users. So if you not yet subscribed to Ameyablog.com, then please subscribe immediately.
