SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.30 is next major release
While browsing through websites and blogs by SAP experts, I came across a news stating ”SAP has planned NetWeaver Portal 7.30 release“. Though not much information is available rather no information is available on this topic but what is that we can expect in Portal 7.30 version.
When SAP planned to release BI 7.3, it was clear that Netweaver portal would also see a new version tagged 7.30. So what is that we can expect in this new version?
Web Page Composer that was missing from 7.0 version would be expected to join the party in 7.30 version. I am not sure how much scalable it would be, but provided light UI designs and ease of accessibility, web page composer would be a great addition to Portal 7.30. You would have noticed a web page composer perspective in NWDS Composite Edition CE 7.1 as well as CE 7.2. Perhaps we can also expect revision in Visual Composer.
It may be possible that usability is one of the key factor taken into consideration while designing this version of Portal. We have seen a lot of focus on usability of SAP UI and applications over past 2 years. So it would be quiet possible that SAP integrates user experience and usability features in the new design.
It would be great to see where does SLD stands in this new version. Right now there is no separate space for individual and central SLD. What I mean is we can configure SLD for a single server as well as we can configure same system as a central SLD. Also it would be great to see how NWDI is adjusted in this landscape. I expect NWDI to be integrated in the portal itself.
I also expect monitoring of portal objects to take a major lead in this version. Right now we do not have many configurable options for portal activity reports. It would be great to see if SAP extends drag-drop functionality here as well.
After all this, how can I miss Ajax from the lime-light. I am sure some cool functionalities would be provided for Ajax and JQuery designs.
I really wish to see drag-drop functionality in NWDS EP perspective. We spend a lot of time in coding hbj, html and jsp tags to design simple UIs. Even it is difficult to find documentation of complex hbj tags. It would be great if SAP modifies the EP perspective. This will certainly accelerate the portal developments.
I will post more about new features in SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.30 as and when they are announced. As of now, I am eager to see some cool, flashy and light portal UI designs in 7.30.
