Phir mile sur; good but could have been better
Mile sur mera tumhara; an epic song that was created around 23 years back almost became a national anthem that time. The strength of the song was its simplicity.
Zoom tv came up with the concept of recreating the magic of mile sur, really a nice thought and yes in these 23 years world has progressed and so too India, similarly new mile sur was supposed to be modern and retrospecting video but with a touch of Indian elegance.
However, there were lots of missing links one could find in this new song. Song fails to maintain required continuty and music changes abruptly many times.
lets have look at what is missing and what could have made the video better. Well who am I to judge it. But still I feel following points should have been done justice to the video.
Video should have made with mixed blend of legends and new succesors in it. I found Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Gandhi, APJ Kalam missing in this video.
Personally I didn’t find the idea of starting that song with the voice of Amitabh Bachchan. India has so rich and great singers like Pandit Bheemsen, Ravishankar. Why not them?
It was more of bollwood song than the national integrity. Bollywood stars consumed up most of the screen time. People who have actualy made India proud like Abhinav Bindra, Saina Nehwal & Vajayendra Sing are screend just for the sake of it. Why?
Music starts good with rehman playing a touch pad but gradually gets ruined with the voice of Amitabh into it. Lots of link breaks in between the song which hurts song’s melody. Shanakr Ehsaan Loy track starts awefully bad but then grips pace, the rock version which they end with should have been placed at the end of the song.
One example I would like to share here. Song starts with “milesur mera tumhara” at this time directors could have made groups of people from different profession. For e.g. All actors in one screen frame. So also all sports starts. They could have been shoot independently when “Mile sur mera tumhara” line starts and group them when “Toh sur bane humara” line starts. This could have made impressive addition to the video.
Personally, Song failed to invoke the sense of pride like the old song used to do. Older version was nicely composed and does not lose grip on to audience at all. Starting like “toh sur bane hamara” is been repeated many times and it later causes irritation.
Well, this was my view of Phir Mile Sur. Reader’s view may be different than what I hav eexpressed.
